Strength is built gradually using capoeira movements. These callisthenic exercises allow you to build up your stamina in a progression that feels comfortable. Common movements include lunges, squats and cartwheels or push-ups.
Self-Defense is a real asset to a man or woman to allow them to feel secure in any situation. Capoeira teaches the physical skill set necessary for an individual to defend themselves, and the intellectual capacity to know when these skills should be used.
Acrobatics are not necessary to play a technical game of Capoeira, but they are a very notable component of the game. These movements are practiced over time and slowly added as variety to make the game interesting.
Cardio is made fun during Capoeira. It is a part of every piece of the workout and in both Aerobic and Anaerobic capacities.
Flexibility allows the delivery of strong and accurate kicks. What is very unique to Capoeira is the combination of flexibility in the upper body required to facilitate the acrobatic component of the game.
Confidence is fostered in many ways, including building friendships in a strong community, creating belief in your physical ability and through onstage opportunities to share your skills.
Agility is learned through practice of Capoeira, primarily in the Roda and during partner exercises. Students train in partnership to build quick reflexes for both attacks and escapes.
Balance is a pivotal point in Capoeira. Movements often require quick and multiple points of weight transfer. Known for its spinning kicks and acrobatics, balance is taught and learned both on hands and feet.
Grace is not just for dancers. Coined as the “dance fight” for obvious reason, Capoiera has a certain skill level that makes typically strong and abrasive movements look fluid and smooth.
Music adds swing and energy (Axe) to a Capoeira Game through both Vocals and Percussion.
Rhythm defines the type of Capoeira game that is played. Through participating in classes, you will develop your understanding of rhythm and your musicality.
Dance can be applied to Capoeira and vice versa. Dancers can utilize their skills of balance, grace and flexibility and in turn apply power and strength from Capoeira.
Culture is everywhere in Canada. Being a part of Capoeira is a lesson in Brazilian History and present day Brazil. It allows us to open our eyes and have a deeper cultural understanding for the country.
Community is at the forefront of the groups values! Everyone is welcomed with open arms and becomes part of the Camara family immediately!
Language becomes a reality in Capoeira as yours learn the music and the terminology you begin to understand Portuguese. As you progress through belts, it becomes more of a necessity.
